Building a Workplace That Communicates

For a financial services organisation, communication cannot stop at customers. The people inside the organisation are equally important.
Dakshin Capital wanted its office environment to become more than a functional workspace. The objective was to create a workplace that communicated the organisation's values, encouraged employees and kept the larger purpose of the business visible every day.
Leverage approached the assignment as Workplace Branding & Visual Communication—using design, imagery, information graphics and motivational communication to transform ordinary office spaces into purposeful brand environments.
The Challenge
Financial services can often be perceived as complex, technical and numbers-driven.
Investment. Insurance. Tax savings. Retirement planning. Child education. Home loans. Wealth creation.
The challenge was to communicate these subjects in a way that was:
- Easy to understand
- Visually engaging
- Relevant to employees and visitors
- Consistent with the corporate identity
- Positive and motivational
- Suitable for an office environment
At the same time, the workplace needed visual energy. The walls should not merely carry information. They should communicate something every time an employee walks past them.
The Leverage Approach
Leverage developed a visual communication approach that combined corporate communication, information design and motivational messaging.
Instead of filling the office with conventional promotional posters, the communication was planned around different purposes.
1. Inform
Some posters were designed to simplify financial concepts and present information in a visually accessible manner.
For example, the Retirement Planning Challenges communication uses an illustrated central concept surrounded by key challenges such as increased life expectancy, medical insurance limitations, inflation, changing family structures and social security concerns.
Complex information was converted into an easy-to-understand visual story.
2. Educate
Financial concepts can become difficult to communicate when presented only through text.
Infographics were therefore used to break information into clear visual steps.
The "4 Steps Towards Financial Freedom" communication is an example of this approach. Instead of presenting financial planning as a complicated subject, the information was structured into four clear areas:
- Adequate Life Insurance
- Adequate Health Insurance
- Contingency Planning
- Goal-Based Investments
This made the communication easier to absorb at a glance.
3. Motivate
One of the most important aspects of the project was the creation of motivational posters. These were not treated as generic "office quotes". The objective was to create visual messages that could contribute to the mindset and emotional environment of the workplace.
Messages such as "Have faith in what you do. You'll find your way, in or out." and "Your inner strength is far greater than you imagine." were paired with strong conceptual imagery.
The image and the message were designed to work together. The poster was not simply intended to be read. It was intended to make the employee pause, think and reconnect with a positive thought.
4. Create an Inspiring Workplace
A workplace is experienced visually every day. Employees repeatedly see the same corridors, walls, workstations and common areas. This creates an opportunity for continuous internal communication.
Well-designed motivational posters can therefore become a subtle form of employee engagement. Instead of conducting motivation as a one-time event, the organisation can create an environment where positive messages are constantly present in the employee's visual surroundings.
That was an important philosophy behind the Dakshin Capital workplace communication.
The Role of Motivational Posters
The motivational posters were developed around different psychological themes rather than repeating the same style of quote.
- Confidence — messages that remind employees of their own capabilities.
- Resilience — visual stories that communicate the ability to overcome obstacles.
- Purpose — messages that reconnect people with why their work matters.
- Positive Thinking — simple thoughts that can influence the emotional tone of the workday.
- Self-Belief — communication that encourages employees to recognise their own potential.
- Perseverance — messages that reinforce the importance of continuing despite challenges.
This created a library of visual motivation, rather than a collection of unrelated posters.
Concept + Visual + Message
A key strength of the motivational communication was the relationship between the visual concept and the copy.
For example, a person standing before a much larger shadow communicates the idea that our perception of ourselves can sometimes be smaller than our actual potential. The message "Your inner strength is far greater than you imagine." then completes the visual thought.
Similarly, the maze concept communicates uncertainty and finding one's own path. The accompanying message "Have faith in what you do. You'll find your way, in or out." turns the image into a motivational narrative.
This approach makes the posters more memorable than simply placing a motivational quotation over a stock photograph.
Corporate Backdrops & Office Graphics
The workplace branding extended beyond posters. Corporate backdrops and office graphics were designed to maintain a consistent visual identity across the environment. These applications can include:
- Reception-area graphics
- Meeting-room backdrops
- Office wall graphics
- Employee communication panels
- Financial awareness graphics
- Motivational wall posters
- Corporate value statements
- Brand communication panels
- Event and programme backdrops
Together, these elements create a more cohesive branded workplace environment.
Why Workplace Branding Matters
A company's brand is not experienced only through advertisements. It is experienced through People + Place + Communication + Behaviour.
When employees enter an office where the organisation's purpose, values and positive messages are visible, the physical environment becomes part of the brand experience.
For Dakshin Capital, the office itself became another communication medium. The walls became communicators.
The Outcome
The Dakshin Capital assignment demonstrates how graphic design can move beyond conventional advertising and become part of an organisation's internal culture.
Through a combination of Workplace Branding, Office Graphics, Information Design, Motivational Communication and Corporate Backdrops, Leverage helped create a workplace environment that was not only visually branded but also informative, engaging and motivational.
The result was a collection of communication pieces designed to serve different purposes—from educating people about financial planning to encouraging employees through everyday motivational messages.
The Leverage Difference
Leverage believes workplace communication should not be treated as decoration. A poster should have a purpose. A wall graphic should communicate something. A backdrop should reinforce the brand. And a motivational message should make someone feel something.
For Dakshin Capital, the approach was therefore not "Let us design some posters for the office." It was "Let us make the workplace communicate."
When the walls speak, the workplace becomes part of the brand.
